Global Innovation Index Releases China's Leading Innovation Efficiency First

According to the 2012 Global Innovation Index (GII) jointly released by INSEAD, the world's leading business school, and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a specialized agency of the United Nations: “Strengthening Innovation and Promoting Global Growth”, Switzerland, Sweden and For the second consecutive year, Singapore has been at the forefront of overall innovation performance. The report ranks 141 countries/economies based on innovation capabilities and outcomes. The report draws on the experience of the following knowledge partners: Alcatel-Lucent, Boss, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and an advisory committee of eleven international experts. Research shows that innovation power continues to be influenced by emerging and successful innovation countries. The good expressions of the top 20 countries in the GII and the following emerging countries are evidence of this. These countries include: Latvia, Malaysia, China, Montenegro, Serbia, Republic of Moldova, Jordan, Ukraine, India, Mongolia, Armenia, Georgia, Namibia, Vietnam, Swaziland, Paraguay, Ghana, Senegal; and Kenya and Zimbabwe Low-income countries. “The GII reminds countries in a timely manner that innovation promotion policies are critical to discussions about promoting sustainable economic growth,” said WIPO Director General Francis Gurry. “It is necessary to prevent downward pressure on the investment of innovation in the current crisis. Otherwise, the production capacity of countries may suffer long-term damage. It is time to develop forward-looking policies to lay the foundation for future prosperity.” Top 10 in the 2012 Global Innovation Overall Index Compared with last year, the leader of the overall GII ranking has not changed much. Among the top ten, Switzerland, Sweden and Singapore are among the best, followed by Finland, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Denmark, Hong Kong (China), Ireland and the United States of America. Canada is the only country to leave the top ten this year, and its position in all of GII's major innovation input and output pillars is weakening. The report shows that the United States remains an innovation leader, but the report also pointed out that the country's education, human resources and innovation output are relatively lacking, leading to a decline in innovation rankings. Top 10 in the Global Innovation Index Switzerland 2 Sweden 3 Singapore 4 Finland 5 United Kingdom 6 Netherlands 7 Denmark 8 Hong Kong (China) 9 Ireland 10 The regional leaders in the overall GII of the United States of America and the leaders of the BRICS regions include: Europe Switzerland, the United States of America in North America, Singapore in Southeast Asia and Oceania, Israel in North Africa and West Asia, Chile in Latin America and the Caribbean, India in Central Asia and South Asia, and Mauritius in Sub-Saharan Africa. The leader in low-income economies is Kenya. Professor Roland Berg, professor of business and technology at the European Business School, and Somitra Dutta, founder of GII, pointed out: “GII aims to update and improve the way innovative measurements are made. Today, when defining innovation, it must reflect innovation. A background-driven, problem-focused, interdisciplinary environment. The purpose of expanding the 2012 variable is to identify appropriate characteristics that reflect today's innovations.” The report points out BRICS countries (Brazil, Russian Federation, India, and China) Greater investment in innovation capacity should be made to maximize its expected potential. China's performance in key knowledge and technology output pillars is second only to Switzerland, Sweden, Singapore and Finland. But the report points out that China and India have flaws in their innovation infrastructure and environment. The report also pointed out that among the BRICS countries, Brazil has the largest decline. “Innovation is at the forefront of competition, at the regional level, at the national level, for companies,” says Alcatel-Lucent CEO Ben Weihuan. “How to deal with this challenge will play a decisive role in the competitiveness of all participants.”
