Russian scholars successfully synthesized the world's most refractory materials

The Russian Far Eastern Federal University released news that scholars of the Russian Far Eastern Federal University and the Russian Academy of Sciences Far East Branch synthesized powder mixture materials under extreme conditions. The main components of this material are hafnium carbides and nitrides, and its melting point reaches 4400 Kelvin. . Prior to this, the most refractory material in the world was five tantalum hafnium (Ta4HfC5), which has a melting point of 4200 Kelvin.

The research team of the Institute of Atomic Energy of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Far Eastern Federal University of Russia and the Institute of Chemistry of the Far East Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences used the pulsed flame sintering method to obtain this powder mixture material.
