Strange electrode material can repair itself during charging

The research team at the University of Tokyo has discovered electrode materials with self-healing capabilities that can repair their structures by storing electricity.

The performance of current rechargeable batteries will decrease with repeated charge and discharge, so it is necessary to improve the electrode material, which is the core part of battery storage power.

The electrode material discovered this time can become a stable structure through charging, so it will repair itself every time it is charged, and its performance will not be affected. The analysis found that this self-repair phenomenon was caused by the strong Coulomb gravitational force of the ions and vacancies inside the substance, that is, as the ions and vacancies were strongly attracted to each other, they spontaneously became undisturbed structures, realizing self repair.

If this Coulomb attraction is introduced into other electrode materials, it is also expected to achieve self-healing ability and help to extend the life of the battery.
