The role of stirring in the sludge anaerobic digester

Mixing and stirring is one of the key conditions for improving the anaerobic digestion efficiency of the sludge. Without the anaerobic digester stirred, there must be stratification of the feed liquid in the tank. Stirring can eliminate stratification, increase the contact between sludge and microorganisms, and quickly mix the influent and the original liquid in the pool, and promote the separation of biogas and digestive liquid, and at the same time prevent crust formation. A well-stirred digester utilization rate can reach 70%, while an unreasonable digester's volume utilization can drop below 50%.
Stirring can be carried out continuously or intermittently. Most sewage plants use intermittent stirring. Under normal circumstances, stirring once every 2~4h, stirring time should not exceed th. The stirring is usually performed while the mud and the steam are heated, and the stirring is stopped when the digestion liquid is discharged, and the supernatant is discharged after being separated by the stationary precipitation. When using the bottom mud discharging method, the stirring may be stopped during the mud discharging process, and when the upper mud discharging mode is adopted, the stirring shall be performed simultaneously during the mud discharging process.
