A New Breakthrough in Enzymolysis and Saccharification of Biological Pretreatment Corn Stalks in Chengdu
Corn stalks are one of the major sources of agricultural waste in China. There are about 200 million tons of corn wastes each year. Most of them are directly discarded or burned on the spot, causing waste of resources and environmental pollution. Corn straw is mainly composed of three major components: cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. After enzymatic hydrolysis and biotransformation, biomass energy such as ethanol and butanol can be generated, and about 30% of energy can be converted. The Liu Xiaofeng Research Group of the Center for Applied and Environmental Microbiology, Chengdu Institute of Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences used the high-efficiency strain Trametes hirsute Y9 to conduct pretreatment of corn stover. The results showed that after 42 days of treatment, the lignin degradation reached 71.49%, and the enzymolysis rate of the treated raw material reached 73.99%. Scanning electron microscopy of the pretreated raw materials revealed that the surface of the straw after pretreatment became rough, the gaps between the cellulose fibers were clearly visible, and many pores were formed. The study also showed that the amount of enzymatic saccharification was inversely proportional to the lignin content, and was not significantly related to cellulose and hemicellulose. The results were published in INTERNATIONAL BIODETERIORATION & BIODEGRADATION (2011, 65: 931-938). Tool Set Box is one of the most popular styles of packaging in Tool Set industry.
