Application and Implementation of CAE in Automobile Development (4)

From the above analysis, we know that to better complete the CAE task, the CAE software will be better integrated with other CAXs. As an example, the geometric model is first generated by the CAD software. The model is output in IGES format or other format, and then read into the geometric model by finite element software and mechanical dynamics software. The finite element software performs stress, strain and modal analysis according to the geometrical model generated by the CAD software and the calculated joint force of the mechanical dynamics software and outputs the analysis results. The models required for mechanical dynamics software fall into two categories: rigid body models are obtained from CAD software; soft body models are obtained from finite element software (.MNF format files). In addition, if the model of some parts is generated by the mechanical dynamics software itself, the quality parameters can be obtained from the CAD software as needed. In addition to outputting the final result, the mechanical dynamics simulation analysis can also output the motion relationship of the part and the joint force for finite element analysis.

Another example of a CAD/CAM system for a car transmission. The system consists of CAD geometric modeling, parameter optimization design, finite element analysis, and CAPP/CAM. The CAD software uses Pro/E, which performs geometric modeling and generates model signature files. The parameter optimization design module reads the model feature file and optimizes the structural parameters and performance parameters of the transmission. During the optimization process, the finite element software ANSYS was called to calculate the strength and stiffness of the part. The optimized model is returned to Pro/E and it completes the CAPP/CAM task.
