A search and rescue dog team usually consists of two search and rescue dogs and their trainers and a captain. In the initial stage of the search and rescue mission, two search and rescue dog teams were generally deployed to participate in the search and rescue.

The search and rescue dog team leader is responsible for analyzing the terrain and structural characteristics of the searched area, marking all key information, and reporting the results to the search and rescue operation headquarters.

After any search and rescue dog team finds a suspicious area with survivors, the captain should transfer the team from the area. Suspicious targets discovered by a search and rescue dog unit should not be marked immediately, but the trainer of that unit should memorize the exact location. At the same time another team was dispatched to search the area again. If the second search and rescue dog unit also considers the area suspicious, mark the area. Once a suspicious area is marked, the captain should immediately report the result of the marking to the search and rescue operation headquarters, and the rescue team will take follow-up action.
