Recently, the American Manufacturing Technology Association (AMT) and the American Machine Tool Distributors Association (AMTDA) released the latest statistics on US machine tool consumption. In April 2010, the US machine tool production was 1,328 units, a decrease of 6.5% from the 1421 units in the previous month. In April, US machine tool consumption totaled US$222.36 million, down 15.6% from last month's US$2.6345 billion, and a significant increase of 102.7% from US$10969 million in April 2009. From January to April 2010, the cumulative consumption of machine tools in the United States was $783.30 million, an increase of 50.6% from $520 million in the same period in 2009.

In terms of product categories, in April, US metal cutting machine tool consumption was $21,163 million, down 8.9% from last year's $23,238 million, and 113.9% from April 2009's $99.93 million. The consumption of metal forming and manufacturing machine tools was US$10.73 million, a significant drop of 65.5% from US$31.07 million last month and a slight decrease of 0.3% from US$10.76 million in April 2009. From January to April 2010, the consumption of metal cutting machine tools in the United States was 7.2494 billion US dollars, up 60.8% year-on-year; the consumption of metal forming and manufacturing machine tools was 58.09 million US dollars, still down 16% year-on-year.

AMT Chairman Douglas K. Woods said: "In January and February this year, US machine tool manufacturing investment growth was more cautious, and March growth pushed investment in the first quarter to a higher level. Although the April data is more than March A slight decline, but the level of activity in the machine tool manufacturing industry has increased by more than 100% over the same period last year. We expect that the investment level of the machine tool industry will show a typical cautious optimism over time."
