Transgenic chickens do not transmit bird flu

According to Xinhua News Agency, British researchers reported on the 13th that the genetically modified chickens that they have developed will not transmit the virus to other chickens after being infected with bird flu.

The key to this research is the introduction of a new gene in chickens. This gene will lead to the production of a "bait" molecule that is very similar to some of the genetic material of bird flu virus and can disrupt the self-replication process of the virus. The virus cannot continue to spread.

Researchers are conducting further research. The ultimate goal is to make chickens not only not transmit bird flu but also to fight against bird flu.

The researchers pointed out that eating these genetically modified chickens does not have any safety issues. Since the GM food regulatory agencies have not yet been specifically assessed for this, these GM chickens are now being used for research purposes only and have not yet entered the scale-up phase.
