In the first half of this year, the growth rate of global new ship orders has slowed significantly. Statistics show that the number of new ships in the first six months of this year was less than 500, which is the lowest level of orders in the first half of 1990. Despite this, some shipowners’ new ship orders are still increasing compared to the same period last year, with Japanese shipowners ranking first in new ship orders in the first half of the year.

Data show that in the first half of this year, global new ship orders fell by nearly 50% year-on-year. Among them, the number of Japanese shipowners ranked first increased by 23% year-on-year. This is the first time that Japanese shipowners have ranked first in order volume since 2008. The increase in order volume is mainly due to the increase in orders for container ships. Orders of Greek shipowners' new ships slipped to second place, with orders falling 60% year-on-year in the first half of the year. Danish shipowners' new ship orders ranked third, up nearly 6 times year-on-year, mainly from orders for 11 container ships of Maersk Line.

After ranking the top two orders for six consecutive years, Chinese shipowners’ orders for new ships fell to fourth place in the first half of this year. In the first half of the year, orders from Chinese shipowners fell by 72% year-on-year. Among them, most of the orders are crude oil ships. At the same time, thanks to the container ship orders of CMA CGM, the order volume of French ship owners increased by nearly 9 times in the first half of the year. The increase in orders for gas carriers has pushed the orders of Korean shipowners to return to the top ten. US shipowners ranked 10th in new ship orders in the first half of the year; however, the five ship orders ordered by US shipowners made the average new ship order price significantly higher than the top 9 countries.
