Report of 1751 Cases of Pneumoconiosis in Hunan Occupational Diseases Last Year

The 2014 “Occupational Disease Prevention Law” campaign week sponsored by the Hunan Provincial Department of Health, the Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security, the Provincial Bureau of Safety Production Supervision, and the Provincial General Trade Union has entered the China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Group today. In addition to publicizing the relevant contents of the Occupational Disease Prevention Law, the medical staff of the Provincial Occupational Disease Prevention and Treatment Center provided free medical examination items such as B-ultrasound, blood drawing, pulmonary function chest radiographs and more for more than 100 front-line employees of the China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Group at the event site.

According to the 2013 occupational disease statistics report of 14 cities and provinces in the province, there were 2241 new cases of occupational diseases in 2013, which is 576 cases less than last year (2817 cases in 2012), a decrease of 20.45%.

"In 2013, there were 1751 cases of pneumoconiosis reported in the province, accounting for 89.95% of the total number of reported cases." Zhang Jian, director of the provincial health department, said that the occurrence of occupational diseases in Hunan is still dominated by pneumoconiosis, and the production dust is harmful. The problems are still quite outstanding; especially in the occupational hazard control and health monitoring work of some occupational hazards, the work needs to be further strengthened, care for the health of occupational groups, and strengthening prevention and treatment of occupational diseases is still a long way to go.
