The current situation and confusion of feed sweeteners
In recent years, China's feed sweetener market is chaotic, with a wide variety of names and price confusion. What should be the mainstream products of feed sweeteners? Some time ago, chatting in a group of formulators, some so-called experts believe that there is no sweetener. Role, opinion is extreme? With these questions, as a long-term researcher in the industry, I think it is time to talk about feed sweeteners. First, the status quo of the sweetener market 1. There are more varieties. At present, most of the feed sweetener manufacturers use saccharin sodium as the main sweet source, and compound masking agents and synergists which mask the bitter taste after saccharin sodium, which is the mainstream of feed sweeteners. However, in recent years, there have been other sweet source products. With the release of New Sweet's patent, a new type of sweetener represented by neotame has appeared on the market, claiming that it does not contain sweeteners of sodium saccharin and can mask the bitter taste of the drug. Flavor. There are also some sweeteners that are used in combination with sodium saccharin and neotame, which are excellent in exporting and cost-effective sweeteners. In addition, there are also new types of sweeteners that add some special flavoring agents or attracting factors to continuously improve feeding. 2, more manufacturers. The main content and price are more confusing, and everyone is regarded as a customer product. The mainstream products in the market are still mainly 30%, 50%, 70%, 90%, 95% and other products of saccharin sodium, and the price ranges from 10 yuan to more than 100. Recently, a large number of neo-sweet products have also been rushed to the market. These products are generally not marked with the main content. Most of them use sweetness as a measure of quality. The price is generally lower than the sweetener based on saccharin sodium. The price is very high. confusion. 3. There are many marketing concepts. The sweetener market has overcapacity and fierce competition. Various manufacturers have made every effort to fight marketing, price wars and customer wars. Some companies like to play new concepts, such as the "water-soluble" products popular in previous years, with full water solubility as a selling point, and "sucrose-type" products, in order to pursue purely human taste as a selling point, such as "distributed" products, Open the bag and smell the dust very sweet as a selling point and so on. Second, the use of sweeteners confused What is the sweetener? What kind of sweetener is the sweet source of animal love? With these problems we explore and study. 1. What are the main components of sweeteners? First, the list of feed additives can be used as the main sweet source: sodium saccharin, calcium saccharin, thaumatin, NHDC, maltodextrin, sucrose, glucose, sorbitol, and the like. Second, most sweetener manufacturers use food sweeteners in feed sweeteners such as neotame, cyclamate, acesulfame, and sucralose. 2. Why is saccharin sodium the main source of sweetness? Animal eating habits vary widely, and we often replace animal habits with human will. Studies have shown that people's perception of sweetness is quite different from that of pigs. For example, aspartame is equivalent to 150 times sucrose to humans, but not to pigs; cyclamate is equivalent to 17.6 times sucrose to humans, but not to pigs; Sweet is equivalent to 6000-8000 times sucrose, but is there any pig? There is no authoritative conclusion. Can human perception of sweeteners replace animals? It cannot be completely replaced. The illustration shows that it is sweet in many food grades. In the source, pigs have a higher degree of perception of saccharin and low cost of addition. So far, sodium saccharin has been recognized as an effective and cost-effective sweet source. Therefore, all kinds of large-scale feed enterprises still use sweeteners with saccharin sodium as the main ingredient. 3. How much does the effect of At present, the main sweetener of sweeteners that do not contain saccharin sodium but have a higher sweetness is neotame. After the protection period of Newt Company of the United States, the price of Newtatin has further declined, making New Zealand a more cost-effective source of food in food applications. However, because the sweetness is very high, the amount of addition is too small, the dispersion in the feed is poor; the water solubility is very poor, and it belongs to the post-sweet type. The animal cannot sense the sweetness in the first time; whether it is effective in the animal has not yet been obtained. The exact evidence is that there are a lot of animal basic experiments missing, and there is still a long way to go before using neotame. 4. What is the role of adding feed sweeteners? There are two issues we need to pay attention to, one is to improve palatability. The use of raw materials and varieties of compound feeds, combined with the use of pharmaceutical additives, lead to poor palatability of feed, so the primary role of adding feed sweeteners is to improve the palatability of feed; the second is to continue to promote feed intake. The ultimate goal of using sweeteners is to promote continued feeding of the animals, thereby increasing the overall feed intake and improving the performance of the animal. However, some so-called high-sweetness in the market, people's perception is indeed good, high sweetness, low price, but ultimately the animal's feed intake did not improve, but also declined. One of my clients used this type of sweetener, pig x sweet, to confirm that the pig's feed intake was reduced. The principle of the action of some sweet sources on animals is still unclear. In particular, the use of only post-sweet and too sweet products leads to animal taste failure. These conceptual products need to be used with caution. 5. Is there any major innovation in sweetener technology? First, there is no major breakthrough in the search for new sweet sources. Due to environmental factors, the price of saccharin sodium has increased slightly, and the profit margin of sweetener manufacturers has been compressed, so sweetener manufacturers are also actively looking for a more cost-effective sweet source. The second is technological innovation. Spray drying technology has been widely recognized, but is there a simpler and more practical process? Further research and innovation are needed. Third, the detection technology has matured. The extensive use of liquid phase and GC/MS detection techniques has made it possible to detect all kinds of complex sweetener ingredients and lay the foundation for large company bidding. Third, how to use sweetener 1. Pay attention to quality evaluation indicators. The sweetener is the most direct contact with the taste of pigs, and its importance is self-evident. It is necessary to control the quality of sweeteners. Users can focus on multi-dimensional quality evaluation indicators such as content, sweetness, sweetness, homogeneity, stability, addition amount, and feed intake. If only sweetness is indicated, most products that do not contain the main content are not sweeteners based on sodium saccharin. 2. Properly verify product quality. First, verify its appearance, including fluidity and dispersibility, to detect the angle of repose of the product; secondly, verify its sweetness, including tasting its sweetness and multiples of sucrose, whether the sweetness is quickly perceived, whether there is obvious post-bitter taste and Metallic taste, etc.; finally verify its intrinsic quality, such as its saccharin sodium or neotame content by liquid chromatography. For high-content sodium saccharin sweeteners, companies without liquid chromatography can use chemical titration to detect the main content of saccharin or commission related units. 3, the common problems in the use of links. There are several common problems to remind you. One is to open the package or feel very sweet during use. This phenomenon has a great relationship with the particle size of the sweetener. In the particle size of 150~200 mesh, the sweetener is easier to Diffusion in the air has little to do with the quality of the sweetener. Second, is the sweetener scented, will it increase the use of sweeteners? No. Just to increase the commerciality of the product, a ton of sweetener only needs to add 500g of flavoring agent to achieve a strong aroma, which has little to do with the quality of the sweetener. The third is the amount of sweetener added. Most manufacturers recommend the amount of addition is not reliable, the amount of labeling does not match the actual, in order to allow the feed mill to recognize their price advantage. Usually, the addition of the feed sweetener should be converted to the corresponding saccharin. For example, the feed of the piglet is converted to 200g/ton of anhydrous sugar, and the large pig is converted by the amount of 100g/ton of anhydrous sugar.
