What is the difference between thermoplastics and thermosets?

A thermoplastic material refers to a plastic having heat softening and cooling hardening properties. Most of the plastics we use in our daily lives fall into this category. It becomes soft and even flows when heated, and the cooling becomes hard. This process is reversible and can be repeated. So, what are the thermoplastic materials? What is the difference between thermoplastic materials and thermosetting materials? Let's take a look at it with Xiaobian.
What are the thermoplastic materials?
Polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, polyoxymethylene, polycarbonate, polyamide, acrylic, other polyolefins and copolymers thereof, agglomeration, polyphenylene ether, chlorinated polyether, etc. It is a thermoplastic material. In the thermoplastic material, the resin molecular chains are linear or branched, and there is no chemical bond between the molecular chains, and the flow is softened when heated, and the process of cooling and hardening is a physical change.
Thermoplastic materials can be further classified into general-purpose plastics, general-purpose engineering plastics, and high-performance engineering plastics.
The main thermoplastic materials are polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS), polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA, commonly known as plexiglass), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), nylon (Nylon), Polycarbonate (PC), polyurethane (PU), polytetrafluoroethylene (Teflon, PTFE), polyethylene terephthalate (PET, PETE), and the like.
The difference between thermoplastics and thermosets:
First, thermoplastic materials
It becomes soft and even flows when heated, and the cooling becomes hard. This process is reversible and can be repeated. Polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, polyoxymethylene, polycarbonate, polyamide, acrylic, other polyolefins and copolymers thereof, agglomeration, polyphenylene ether, chlorinated polyether, etc. It is a thermoplastic material. In the thermoplastic material, the resin molecular chains are linear or branched, and there is no chemical bond between the molecular chains, and the flow is softened when heated. The process of cooling and hardening is a physical change.
Second, thermosetting materials
When the first heating, the flow can be softened, heated to a certain temperature, and the chemical reaction is hardened by the cross-linking and hardening. This change is irreversible, and then, when heated again, it can no longer soften. It is by this characteristic that the molding process is carried out by using the plasticizing flow at the time of the first heating, filling the cavity under pressure, and solidifying into a product having a determined shape and size. This material is called a thermoset plastic.
The thermosetting plastic resin is linear or branched before curing, and forms a chemical bond between the molecular chains after solidification, which becomes a three-dimensional network structure, which can not only be melted but also cannot be dissolved in a solvent. Phenolic, aldehyde, melamine, epoxy, unsaturated polyester, silicone and other plastics are all thermosetting plastics.
Mainly used for heat insulation, wear resistance, insulation, high voltage resistance and other plastics used in harsh environments, most of which are thermosetting plastics. The most commonly used ones are wok pan handles and high and low voltage electrical appliances.

Hastelloy Alloy is a nickel - based corrosion - resistant alloy, which is mainly divided into nickel - chromium alloy and nickel - chromium - molybdenum alloy.Hartford alloy has good corrosion resistance and thermal stability, and is widely used in aviation and chemical fields.

Monel Alloy series products have excellent physical properties of high strength, high corrosion resistance and wear resistance. In all kinds of acid and alkali medium, it has the advantage of long service life, so it is widely used in petrochemical industry, nuclear industry, national defense industry and other advanced industries, as an important part and other industries under complex environmental conditions with high strength, high corrosion resistance and high abrasion resistance.

Uniform corrosion of Inconel products can occur in acidic or hot alkaline solutions.Through this mechanism losses can be expected and allowed in the design.Inconel products corrode at a very slow rate when the metal is in a passive state. Generally corrosion resistance is better with a larger chromium content, but other solutes can be harmful.
