Soft surface
Soft surface is the thread we can see and touch. Fibers can be synthetic or natural.
The density of the soft surface is the test standard for the quality of the carpet: the higher the density of the soft surface, the better the quality of the carpet. The high-density carpet keeps its shape for a long time, and it has better anti-fouling and anti-staining properties. A simple test is to fold a piece of rug. If the backing is easy to see, the quality is not very good.
The density of a soft surface is measured by the number of soft-nosed heads or naps (loops) on a 68-cm (27-inch) wide carpet. For woven carpets, this ratio is called pitch; for a fleece carpet, this is The ratio is called the gauge.
Another sign of rug durability is the weight per unit area of ​​the carpet. The weight per square yard (0.836 square meters) of face fiber (in ounces or grams, 1 ounce = 28.35 grams) is called face weight. The greater the value of the face weight, the better the quality of the carpet.
The height of the soft surface is the third measure of carpet quality; long fibers are better than short fibers. The degree of twist shown by the soft-faced fibers is the fourth criterion, and the greater the twist, the better the carpet quality.
Backing
The backing is on the underside of the carpet, which backs the furs on the soft surface, which determines the strength and stability of the carpet. Most carpets have two backings and the yarns are attached to the first backing. The outer backing is called the second backing. There is a layer of latex adhesive between the two layers, and the soft face bristles are fixed on the first backing.
The types of backing include jute (a natural fiber imported from India and Bangladesh), polypropylene (synthetic thermoplastic resin), and foamed latex. The foam backing is often attached to the first backing to provide the carpet with an internal lining to avoid additional lining. Less expensive carpets are more of this type. For high-priced carpets, latex-coated jute is a good material for making the second backing. However, the synthetic backing is mild, odorless, anti-dry, and does not cause allergies.
Lining
The lining can be placed under the carpet, providing an additional layer of insulation that can be acoustically sounded for added comfort and a “buffer†that can extend the life of the carpet. Common linings include foamed latex, urethane foam, and natural materials such as a mixture of jute and hair. The choice of lining depends on the type of carpet used, the degree of comfort, and the extent and type of carpet wear under normal conditions.
Some experts recommend not using linings and sticking the carpet directly to the ground in places where there are many walks and where the carts carrying heavy objects pass. They think that a thick lining will increase the friction, cause the carpet to bend longitudinally and tear easily, which will damage the carpet prematurely.
There are 3 kinds of carpets on the market. Wide-format carpets are generally 3 meters (12 feet) wide, but custom 3.8-meter (15-foot) wide carpets are also available. The length of the rug ranges from 0.5 meters (2 feet) to 2.2 meters (9 feet). The tile carpet size is 1.2 square meters. Tile carpets are ideal for public places such as halls, foyers, conference rooms. Compared to the past, new adhesives have made moving tile carpets much easier. Standard rugs vary in size from 0.75 meters X 1.2 meters (3 feet X 5 feet) to 2.5 meters X 3 meters (10 feet X 12 feet). The customer may need a larger size.
